Dear JB,
You’ll never remember meeting Honey, but you would have loved her.
Today, Honey died (she was hit by a car while she enjoyed running across the street, as she did often) and Honey was our dog for 3 great years (and around for your 1st year almost exactly). We’re still mourning her, but I wanted to make sure you read about her cause you well… won’t remember her.
Honey was the SWEETEST dog but she was scared of you. You were a little rough with her because you didn’t know better, but she still gave you licks, watched over you from the couch and played with you occasionally (see the video previously posted). She never got sick, she didn’t shed much and no one was allergic to her. She was friendly and would go up to just about anyone — to the point I was scared that she would be stolen. You used to even try to share her food, which I had to retrieve from your hands and your mouth a few times. :o/
She even was great with other dogs…until she reached the age of 1 year and began pinning smaller dogs at Doggy Daycare, causing her to be expelled. :)
I’m typing this with tears in my eyes cause you’ll never experience her snuggle and you won’t ever get to feed her again (which you started doing from your high chair), and I’ll always regret not doing more to protect her — but she loved running around and it was when she was most happiest.
I don’t know if I can go through this again with another dog so I’m unsure if we’ll own another one, but I wanted you to know that at one point you had a dog - and she was a beauty.
Love,
Mom
